Salary range (but not limited to):

161,600 - 197,500

Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance):

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.


About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Legal Counsel, Employment, Corporate Litigation, Investigations to join our growing team!

What you’ll do here:

  • Provide legal advice to business partners and Human Resources on a wide variety of employment-related issues including employment litigation, employment standards/CNESST claims and mediations, workplace investigations, occupational health and safety, Charter of the French Language, human rights, and employment terminations.

  • Advise on commercial litigation matters in all provinces that range from small claims court to assisting with class actions.

  • Work with and instructg external counsel on litigation matters throughout the country.

  • Advise on employment and corporate investigations and provide legal advice to leadership concerning risk and appropriate measures related to misconduct allegations or other practices.

  • Provide astute, thoughtful and practical legal and business advice to human resources, business partners and executives.

  • Monitor applicable legislation or case law across the country and provide advice on how legislative changes or court decisions could impact risks, operations and best practices.

  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team in a large organization that requires thoughtfully involving a variety of stakeholders to manage and advise on a complex variety of risks.

  • Constantly identify how to improve internal process, procedures and practices in a manner that provides support to our business while demonstrating high ethical standards and compliance with laws and company policies.


What you’ll bring to the table:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant post-call legal experience in a large law firm or in-house environment advising on employment and corporate litigation matters.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision, while juggling competing priorities.

  • Experience assisting companies respond to CNESST complaints and at mediations, and attending settlement conferences in non-employment litigation matters.

  • Strong business acumen that demonstrates experience applying the law in a manner that provides solutions to our business partners and takes into consideration business priorities and risks.

  • Ability to distill complex problems and apply analytical and creative thinking to manage risk.

  • Strong legal writing, drafting, and verbal communication skills are essential.

  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to influence others.

  • Can build strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients.

  • Can educate and influence decision makers (with an emphasis on simplifying problems and reducing complexity).

  • Experience working in a regulated industry (financial services, telecommunications or similar) would be considered an asset.

  • Bilingualism (french and english) - Necessity to interact on a regular basis with colleagues across the country.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
