Tandia Financial (Tandia) is seeking an Interim Manager Finance to join our Finance team in Ancaster. This role is Full-time and we anticipate a 12-month contract period, with the potential of extension.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the AVP, Financial Reporting, the Manager, Finance is responsible for overseeing the Accounting Department and the specialized accounting functions. These functions include all tasks from the finance, accounting and treasury areas. The position will assist with the preparation of lending administration packages, budget preparation, treasury, securitization, regulatory reporting, derivative accounting; and other functions including the preparation of notes to corporate financial statements. These tasks will be performed in compliance with all policies and procedures as well as International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial statements and other financial reports related to Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA), produced on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Work closely with the AVP, Financial Reporting on all reporting packages to the Senior Executive team.
  • Perform specialized accounting functions associated with securitization.
  • Assist in the preparation of the regulatory reporting requirements according to prescribed deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly internal reporting packages, including the Retail Sales Analysis package.
  • Work closely with the AVP, Financial Reporting where required for securitization pools and reporting.
  • Maintain oversight of foreign exchange balances and rate requests.
  • Assist in managing all the treasury investment portfolios.
  • Administer and report on all investments.
  • Review derivative models and ensure appropriate accounting in place (hedge accounting).
  • On a monthly/annual basis, perform staging analysis of Expected Credit Loss (ECL) results for the lending portfolio, liaising with the Lending Administration team, to understand changes and support ECL Model results in accordance with IFRS
    • Working with the AVP, Financial Reporting, propose management overlays to ECL Model where necessary.
  • Create and maintain lease amortization schedules in accordance with IFRS 16 for all new and existing leases.
  • Prepare the monthly reporting package, profitability/variance analysis, and loan allowance worksheets.
  • Prepare support for annual note disclosures in the notes to financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Review general ledger reconciliations and prepare required reconciliations.
  • Work closely with external auditors for both interim and year-end audit.
  • Support the Human Resources team in determining taxable benefits for employee loans.
  • Support the Human Resources team in accounting for salaries and benefits.
  • Prepare the annual EHT return.
  • Manage and coach direct reports, including the development and implementation of performance plans.
  • Participate in team projects when required.
  • Other assignments, projects and duties may be required

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience.
  • Prior work experience in the financial services sector is considered an asset.
  • People management experience is considered an asset.

Knowledge

Knowledge of the Credit Union system is considered an asset.

Skills

Strong Microsoft Office skills inclusive of advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Strong interpersonal skills. Excellence in problem solving. Demonstrated sound analytical skills. Ability to financial model and forecast. Highly organized. Independent decision-making ability.

Other Requirements

Due to deadline and time constraints, the hours of work may extend beyond the normal work week. There can be numerous and varied responsibilities, which require constant prioritizing to ensure that all duties, are completed efficiently, accurately and on a timely basis. It is a requirement of this position to be able to perform well under pressure while working towards meeting established objectives within the set timeframes.
