We are currently hiring a Claims Examiner II based in our Head Office in Burnaby.

As a Claims Examiner II, you will review losses handled by independent adjusters and administer the claims process within the BCAA Insurance Corporation. You see that loss settlements are negotiated within the appropriate Provincial Statutes, and in line with corporation procedures and philosophies of BCAA’s underwritten lines of business.

What you’ll do:

  • Review and examine loss files including verification of all documents for compliance with settlement agreement.

  • Ensures where applicable, sections of the BC Insurance Act and Provincial Statutes relevant to claims are being adhered to, including Insured’s rights and obligations.

  • Manages reserves and payments within Limits of Authority and in accordance with BCAA best practices.

  • Review information including but not limited to, estimates, photos and/or videos of property damage, proof of ownership, medical records, and other pertinent information required to fully substantiate the claim and quantify the loss.

  • Investigate the legitimacy of the claim, order interviews and/or statements from policyholders, claimants and witnesses.

  • Review IA investigation of the claim and policy wordings to determine if the policy will respond to the loss and recommend and approve or direct the handling of the file accordingly.

  • Directs or approves the negotiation of a fair and cost effective settlement with the insured, claimant or claimant’s legal representative either directly or through the services of retained counsel.

  • Assesses economic feasibility to pursue subrogation and proceed where appropriate. May take over subrogation from IA which may involve seeking legal counsel/action and attending settlement conferences.

  • Ensures claims are handled accurately, professionally, and in a timely manner.

What you’ll bring:

  • Post-secondary diploma in business or related courses, programs, licenses (insurance related) and/or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a claims environment.

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience handling home insurance claims, with working knowledge of home policies, processes, and property-related investigations.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite products (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Bonus Qualifications:

  • CIP designation.

  • Multi-lingual to support specialized market demographics.

The salary range for this position is $75,363.00 to $94,203.84 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 9%, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%
