Job Description
Our client is seeking a seasoned Controller for a permanent role based in the Greater Halifax area (outside of the downtown and peninsula core).This is strategic leadership opportunity to oversee the finance and accounting function, providing actionable insights that drive key business decisions. The ideal candidate is a confident, proactive professional with strong operational accounting experience and the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, practical guidance for management.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:
- Lead the accounting and finance function, providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight for a team of four
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly statements and management reports
- Maintain strong internal controls, accounting procedures, and compliance with applicable standards
- Oversee work in progress (WIP), revenue recognition, and job costing for operational projects
- Manage inventory tracking, valuation, and reconciliation to physical counts
- Monitor invoicing, accounts receivable, and collections to support healthy cash flow
- Analyze financial results, variances, and operational metrics, providing actionable insights to management
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, including scenario analysis
- Partner with operations and leadership to align financial strategy with business realities
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors as required
- Support audits, reviews, and other external reporting requirements
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, reporting, and operational efficiency
Experience & Attributes for Success:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is strongly preferred
- Strong operational accounting and financial management experience
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing a team
- Experience overseeing multiple companies or business units is an asset
- Proactive and outgoing demeanor with the ability to partner effectively with operational teams
- Adaptable and resilient in a fast-paced, multi-company environment
- Excellent communication skills to present financial information clearly to all stakeholders
